Their mission is to provide customers with heathy and top quality vines, and more importantly to choose which types of vines will best adapt to their “Terroir” and allow them to meet their production expectations.

Michael Bauer’s review in the San Francisco Chronicle: In 2002, Gerald and his wife, Cameron, brought the French-Basque flavors he was raised on to downtown San Francisco with the opening of ​Piperade​. Two years later, he opened Bocadillos, and is also co-owner of Clos Pissarra Winery in Catalonia. The Hirigoyens’ restaurants and Gerald Hirigoyen’s accomplishments have been featured in such renowned national food journals as Gourmet, Bon Appetit, and The New York Times. 

Special Distinction: Le Comptoir, Gamine
Opened in early April 2016 in San Rafael, ​Le Comptoir is a Bistrot, Rotisserie, and Epicerie inspired by French cuisine traditions and methods. Unpretentious, open late, dine in or take out, ​the restaurant is sister to popular ​Gamine​, on Union Street in San Francisco, ​a lively neighborhood bistrot celebrating rustic pleasures from France. ​

Special Distinction: Hyde de Villaine 
Hyde de Villaine is a venture between the Hyde Family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine Family of Burgundy. The families, related by marriage, share long histories in French and Californian winemaking. In HdV, they have brought together our knowledge and experience for the purpose of creating single vineyard wines from the slopes of Hyde Vineyards.

Virginie Simon, 34, is the CEO and co-founder of a science big data company: MyScienceWork​. She is a biotech engineer by training and has a PhD in nanotechnology for cancer therapy. She won an Excellence Award in 2008, Sensational Award in 2010, ‘Best Business Entrepreneur of the Year’ in 2011, was recognized by the Berlin magazine The Hundert, listing the 100 best female entrepreneurs in Europe in 2016 and was awarded the Trophées des Français de l’étranger in the Entrepreneur category in 2017.

Special Distinction: Karine Allouche  ​ 
Karine Allouche Salanon is the Chief Executive Officer of GlobalEnglish. Ms. Salanon led a management by out of GlobalEnglish from Pearson. She and her team are rebooting GlobalEnglish into a transformational partner for Fortune 2000 organizations seeking to leverage Business English to drive value in the connected 21st century economy. Ms. Salanon is involved in women-led for-profit social ventures by personally investing in 2 companies. She is a graduate of EDHEC, Graduate School of Management in France. ​

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

We are honored to announce, in advance of the FABA ceremony on May 25
th, the winner of the Lifetime Achievement award.

​Business executive, founder and CEO, investor, advisor... Jean-Louis Gassee was chosen by the Advisory Board to receive the award. The Lifetime Achievement award is designed to reward a French personality who paved the way for French entrepreneurs' endeavors in the Bay Area and remains an inspiring model for our community. 

Jean-Louis Gassee has been associated with Allegis Capital since 1994, officially joined the firm full-time in October 2002, and is currently a Venture Partner. 

In late 1990, Jean-Louis founded Be, Inc., a multi-media system software company, took it to the NASDAQ in 1999 and sold it to Palm in 2001.

He started Apple France in 1981, moved to California in 1985 and became president of the Apple Products Division, covering worldwide product development, manufacturing, and product marketing. 

 
From 1974 to 1981, Jean-Louis served as CEO of the French affiliates of Data General and Exxon Office Systems, and from 1968 to 1974 worked for Hewlett-Packard in sales management positions in France and at the European HQ in Geneva.

He is a Mathematics and Physics graduate of Paris (Orsay) University in France.
